Analysis of the Relationship Between Health Expenditure and Life Expectancy in Argentina
By the Foundation for Health Studies | 2025
This study by the Foundation for Health Studies examines the relationship between health expenditure and life expectancy in Argentina from 2005 to 2023. Using the theoretical framework of the Preston Curve, it seeks to demonstrate that there is no significant correlation between health spending and life expectancy, and that any causal relationship between the two is, at best, marginal. Departing from the widely held view that increased health spending is a key driver of improved life expectancy, the study argues that other structural factors—such as quality of life, nutrition, access to education, and the broader social and economic environment—play a more decisive role.
